The American Legion Post 266 supports the following community projects
- Honor Guard for funerals
- Color guard for special events such as parades, Memorial day activities and baseball games.
- Thanked and honored Vietnam Veterans for their service for giving Vietnam Commemoration pins from the Department of Veterans Affairs for the 50th year National commemoration of the Vietnam war.
- Honored Korean Veterans with the Ambassador for peace medal issued the the Korean Government.
- Dinners to honor Veterans.
- Maintain the Bennington Veterans memorial at Centennial park.
- Special events at Ridgewood Care Center.
- National Security
- Vietnam Veterans gave high school students some understanding of the Vietnam war through the experiences they shared in several classes.
- A Veteran who served in Europe while the Berlin wall was built offered insights on the cold war to students at high school classes.
- Veterans teach American Legion baseball team members teamwork at the Legion fireworks sales.
- Americanism
- Support community fundraisers and other local local civic projects.
- Sponsor the gold star mothers Iris Garden with the boy scouts.
- Provide the honor guard for the opening ceremony at the Legion ball field.
- Youth Activities
- Sponsor three American Legion baseball teams
- Offer scholarships to:
- Boys State
- Girls State
- Junior Law
- College
- Share our military experience with students in Bennington high school in classes and displays
