Community Projects

The American Legion Post 266 supports the following community projects

  • Honor Guard for funerals
  • Color guard for special events such as parades, Memorial day activities and baseball games.
  • Thanked and honored Vietnam Veterans for their service for giving Vietnam Commemoration  pins from the Department of Veterans Affairs for the 50th year National commemoration of the Vietnam war.
  • Honored Korean Veterans with the Ambassador for peace medal issued the the Korean Government.
  • Dinners to honor Veterans.
  • Maintain the Bennington Veterans memorial at Centennial park.
  • Special events at Ridgewood Care Center.
  • National Security
    • Vietnam Veterans gave high school students some understanding of the Vietnam war through the experiences they shared in several classes.
    • A Veteran who served in Europe while the Berlin wall was built offered insights on the cold war to students at high school classes.
    • Veterans teach American Legion baseball team members teamwork at the Legion fireworks sales.
  • Americanism
    • Support community fundraisers and other local local civic projects.
    • Sponsor the gold star mothers Iris Garden with the boy scouts.
    • Provide the honor guard for the opening ceremony at the Legion ball field.
  • Youth Activities
    • Sponsor three American Legion baseball teams
    • Offer scholarships to:
      • Boys State
      • Girls State
      • Junior Law
      • College
    • Share our military experience with students in Bennington high school in classes and displays
