Honoring Our Veterans submission

Military service is among the most meaningful ways to protect American democracy. Generations of men and women form a core part of this nation’s identity: Sacrifice to uphold the freedom of others. We want to honor living veterans. If you are a veteran and would like to participate, please fill out the fields below. Submissions might be included in an online photo gallery on Omaha.com. The World-Herald will honor their service in a special section on Nov. 10. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 18.

Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home

District 8 host an ice cream social at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home on the 3rd Friday monthly at 2:00 p.m. He stated that they can always use additional volunteers.

Air Force Retirement Day program

October 19 is the Air Force Retirement Day program from 9:00 am. to 1:00 p.m.   This is where service members about to retire can learn about the American Legion and many other programs. It will be held at the BX on Offutt AFB.  Bruce Husted is the contact person for this program.  You have to be cleared prior to the event to volunteer.

Saloween party

October 19 the Benson Squadron #112 will host a Saloween party from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Benson VFW Post #2503, 8904 Military.  Last year they had 135 kids and 90 adults participate.

support veterans

October 11 veterans are asked to eat lunch or dinner at Don & Milley’s on Corhusker Road from 4-9 p.m. to help support veterans.

Sarpy County Government Day

October 8 is Sarpy County Government Day, with students meeting at the courthouse to tour the facility and listen to officials, and then having lunch at Papillion Post #32.

Mav Vet Day

October 7 Omaha Post #1 will host their annual Mav Vet Day from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at UNO. Where they try to get the active service students attending the univsity to join their post.
